Fuel Your Passion For Music With A Career In Music

Fuel your passion for music

Be one of the lucky few who enjoy what they do and who get paid for it too

People who get to do what they love and still get paid for it are truly lucky. They no longer call it ‘work’ as they get to enjoy what they do every day. Case in point: musicians who were discovered, were signed to record labels and who tour around the world playing their music in front of their fans. They have the best jobs.

If you’re a music enthusiast and want to be one of the fortunate people who have a career in music, you’re in luck. There are many jobs you can get that are related to music. Even if you don’t get signed to a label and sell 1 million copies of your album, you can still go to the office enjoying a job that’s related to music.

To be highly successful in these jobs you’ll need to have at least one of these: mad skills in playing an instrument, ability to identify good music aesthetics, knowledge in music history, and of course great love for music.

Recording Artist/ Live Performer

Almost all music lovers dream of recording their own songs, playing them live in front of an audience, and gaining recognition and awards. Of course, not every musician can be a multiplatinum award winner. Still nowadays, it has been easier to produce your own music and be a DIY Musician. You can record your own tracks digitally and then sell them online. You can even record your own music video then post it on the Internet. If you’re really good, people will pick up on it and you’ll get the recognition you deserve.

If you don’t want to record your own songs and just want to play music, you can also be a studio or session musician. Lots of artists need other musicians to play with them in their recordings and play with them during gigs.

Composer/Arranger

You can work behind the scenes and be the person responsible for writing good songs for an established artist or an up-and-coming star. Lady Gaga, before recording her own album and being insanely famous, wrote songs for Britney Spears, Fergie and the Pussycat Dolls. You can also be a composer or an arranger.

Producer/ Record Engineer

Own a recording studio and be a music producer. You can help new artists make a name. If owning a studio is still beyond your means, you can also work in a recording studio as a record engineer and help artists in their recording.

Film, TV or Video Game Composer

Film, TV or video game scoring is a lucrative career you can get yourself into. There are a number of productions in need of musicians to score their work. An example of an artist who made it big in this type of music career is Trent Reznor, founding member of the industrial metal rock band Nine Inch Nails (NIN). His scoring in the movie “The Social Network” in 2011 had won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Original Score. In 2013, he also won a Grammy Award for his scoring on the movie “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

Shop Owner

Open your own music store and sell in-demand and high quality music instruments like acoustic guitars, electric guitars, amps and electronic drums. If you don’t have enough resources to open up an actual shop, you can own an online music store instead and just set up a virtual store over the Internet. Another alternative is to be a music store sales assistant.

Teacher/Coach

You can teach music to budding young musicians and interested adults and be a music coach. You’ll need to have the musical skills and knowledge to impart to your students and the patience to teach music. There are a lot of talented musicians that have taken the time to teach music like Australia bass legend Victor Rounds and Andrew Gillespie, founding member of Aussie progressive rock band “Floating Me.” Rounds and Gillespie are currently a bass coach and vocal couch at BigMusic in Australia.

If you have the resources you can even open your own musical school in Sydney and hire exceptional musicians to be the music coach.

Music Writer/Photographer

What better way to be in the music scene than to be a music journalist or photographer. You attend different music events, get a backstage pass, and even interview artists. You’ll need to have a knack in writing, have a good understanding of the music industry, and appreciate good music.

These are just few of the many careers you can get into to fuel your passion in music. The key is to not give up on your dream. If you really want to be a multiplatinum award-winning artist, it’s not too late to pick up a guitar and enrol in a music class. If you’re happy just being around music, you can choose any of these jobs and enjoy going to work every day and be paid doing what you love.

Margaret Thatcher Dies: Welcome To The Afterlife (Zombie Thatcher)

April 8th, 2013 by
Afterlife dedicated to Zombie Thatcher

Welcome To The Afterlife Mrs. Thatcher

Welcome To The Afterlife Mrs. Thatcher

This morning (8th of April 2013) Margaret Thatcher died after suffering from a stroke, or after a strike according to the epic typo from the BBC news website which can be seen below. I don’t really have much of an opinion on Thatcher’s politics because it’s not very easy to sort fact from fiction. A lot of people hated her, a lot of people worshiped the ground she walked upon. Having not lived through the larger part of her time in power an opinion I may have wouldn’t be very valid. But Soul Sanctuary would like to welcome Margaret Thatcher to the Afterlife, being our catchphrase and all. And wanted to share this awesome Zombie picture of Mrs. Thatcher in all her glory, eating flesh and swallowing souls. We would also like to dedicate our video Afterlife to the Iron Lady in her moment of passing.

Funny typo about Margaret Thatcher on the BBC News website:

Margaret Thatcher dies of Strike according to BBC News

Margaret Thatcher died of strike according to the BBC News website

“Welcome to the Cemetery, you’ll walk with grace amongst the dead. Living in a world that’s completely dead inside. Welcome to the Afterlife!”

What do you think about the death of Mrs. Thatcher, were you one of her supporters, were you one of her haters? Did she do anything good or bad for you while she was in power? Should we dedicate more blogs to famous people that have died? Let us know in the comments below. 🙂

Our website is the shit!

Our website is the shit!

At least according to a recent blog post by Joshua Smotherman from Middle Tennessee Music called “3 Things You Can Do Right Now To Significantly Improve Your Band’s Website”, completely unaware we had been featured, until I stumbled across it by accident via Google.

There I was searching for recent backlinks to our site and lo and behold, our new website was the cover image of a blog post. At first I was stuck with a wave of confusion, but after that had subsided after a brief second or two. It certainly made me chuckle. I programmed this thing myself, and being the tortured perfectionist I am, thinking of my somewhat unfinished project being in the spotlight for great band websites gave me a rather ambiguous mixture of pride and honour. Firstly at being praised for my handy work, then slapped with the healthy dose of dismay on behalf of all the visitors that have had to spend time dealing with the litany of bugs, the site is still riddled with. Rest assured I am working on them (I’m looking at you mobile device users).

The post was a great little read. It basically comes down to keep your site simple, don’t over crowd the page. Turn off the auto-play on any music or video players. (a big mistake we made in the past). And thirdly, for feck sake write a frigging blog. Which is exactly what I’m doing now. Anyway to anybody interested in reading the full article, head over to 3 Things You Can Do Right Now To Significantly Improve Your Band’s Website

On The Radio with Captain Sib

February 10th, 2013 by

Captain Sib

“Haven’t you read the papers? Us neither.” Is the opening quote from this weeks Captain Sib radio show. If you’re not familiar with Captain Sib’s work, it’s fairly out of this world, quite literally. Although I’m not fully versed with the back story, the host of the show has what I can only guess is meant to be an alien co-host, who comes off somewhat delirious with his strange high pitched voice. The show is of course, not meant to be taken too seriously and is certainly good fun to listen to. So if you have a spare 60 minutes, give it a listen.

Soul Sanctuary Biography

December 20th, 2012 by

Who Are Soul Sanctuary?

Soul Sanctuary are a hard-hitting six piece Heavy Metal, Hard Rock hybrid from southern UK. British Heavy Metal FTW!

What’s their story?

A long Time ago, in a galaxy far far away… Sorry, wrong story. **Cough, cough** Excuse me.

About Soul Sanctuary

Soul Sanctuary formed in 2006. The band’s début album “Afterlife” was a completely self-produced/self-published record, released on the bands own label, Forsaken Memory Records on Halloween 2009. Afterlife has thus far received some very positive feedback from independent media some even calling the album a “Masterpiece” while others have quoted the bands front man Luke Gibson as having “A scream to match any of the Metal Legends”. They have also shared the stage with the likes of Sonic Syndicate, Guthrie Govan, Blowsight, Esoterica & Dave McPherson of the band InMe. The band and it’s individual members have also enjoyed praise from the music press with features in online publications such as Total Guitar, Bizarre, Devolution, Metal Hammer, Metalsucks.net, Bloody Disgusting, Metal Injection, Comicbook.com, Blabbermouth and many more.

In 2011 Soul Sanctuary released the Single “Lest We Forget” in an effort to raise funds to the victims of the horrific Earthquake that struck Japan in March of the same year. The band’s fund raising efforts received widespread appreciation from the metal community and was published in several news outlets, including The Observer. They even received a special thank you letter from the House of Commons. Soul Sanctuary is a big supporter of charitable work and consistently looks for ways to support causes they believe in.

Because of Soul Sanctuary’s relentless online promotion, vocalist Michael Burrough was head-hunted and hired by the band The Raven Age who were very impressed by his vocal ability from the single “Lest We Forget”. The Raven Age have gone on to play the legendary Sonisphere Festival and a two week tour with Steve Harris’s (Iron Maiden Bassist) British Lion. Many more big tours are set for the very near future too. During this time Soul Sanctuary have decided to take an indefinite hiatus from touring and live shows while Michael works on The Raven Age. But plans to release material online in the mean time are in the works and should commence soon.

“Excellent. Driving, aggressive rock ‘n roll. I love it. Great vocals… Kick Ass Live Band!” – Wayne Thompson (TV Producer)

“Ferociously felt and brilliantly played heavy metal 8/10” – East Magazine
“Musical Masterpiece 10/10” – Headbang Today
“A scream to match any of the metal legends 8/10” – Rock Sins

Lyrics: Heart Attack

October 31st, 2009 by

Heart Attack

The suffering, caused by every broken promise.
A fallen angel born with broken wings.
A majestic lie without an ounce of truth and in this moment,
heaven starts to swallow you!

So many years I believed in you, (the lies you told)
You deceived me to my face.
Never again will I trust in you (trust in you)
and I won’t shed my tears for your heart attack.

In loving memory of those soon to pass.
Rejoice in the regrets of this worthless soul.
your faith has forsaken you, but I forsake my faith,
and with a dying breath I hear you cry in vain, forgive me god!

So many years I believed in you, (the lies you told)
You deceived me to my face.
Never again will I trust in you (trust in you)
and I won’t shed my tears for your heart attack.

(heart attack)

Your time is over now, your life is up.
Your life is over now, your time is…

Your time is!
Your time is!

NOW!!!

So many years I believed in you, (the lies you told)
You deceived me to my face.
Never again will I trust in you (trust in you)
and I won’t shed my tears for your heart attack.

I said I don’t believe in you, rest in peace, now and forever (father)
I said I don’t believe in you, (Save me) Rest in peace.

Lyrics: Gone Away

October 31st, 2009 by

Gone Away

As the sands of time slowly pass by me, and the pictures on my shelf, sit collecting dust.
This presence that I no longer feel inside my heart, starts to slowly fade from memory as well.

Well I know two wrongs don’t make a right,
But I can’t keep up this dead end fight and now I fade into the night.

(Gone Away) In this pain I’m encapsulated.
(Gone Away) I don’t think that I’m gonna make it.
(Gone Away) Without you I can’t breathe.
(Gone Away) Why did you have to leave?

My existence on pure survival instinct is nothing more than a causality.
and as I stare into my reflection of nothingness, nothingness seems to stare back at me.

And after all this time I still don’t know.
Between the truth and lies why did you have to go?

(Gone Away) In this pain I’m encapsulated.
(Gone Away) I don’t think that I’m gonna make it.
(Gone Away) Without you I can’t breathe.
(Gone Away) Why did you have to leave?
